Data sources and attribution

Our venue registry is built from open datasets. This page records where that data comes from and the licence each source is used under.

  • MusicBrainz

Licence: CC0 1.0 (public domain dedication)

Used for: Venue names, addresses and coordinates.

  • Overture Maps Foundation — Places

    Licence: Per record: CDLA-Permissive-2.0, Apache-2.0, or CC0-1.0

Used for: Venue names, addresses, coordinates, websites, social links and categories.

  • Foursquare Open Source Places

    Licence: Apache-2.0

Used for: Reaches us inside Overture Places, carrying its own record identifiers.

  • Wikidata

Licence: CC0 1.0 (public domain dedication)

    Used for: Official website corroboration.

Licences are recorded per record, never assumed. A venue built from two sources keeps both sources' licences, and a record whose licence we cannot establish is not stored at all.

OpenStreetMap is not used

We deliberately do not use OpenStreetMap or any other ODbL-licensed dataset in our venue registry. ODbL's share-alike terms would extend to the registry as a whole, and that is not a commitment we make on our customers' behalf.

Corrections

If a venue's details are wrong, the venue's owner can claim the listing and edit it directly. Anyone else can report a correction for review.
